GPTA History
The Guilford PTA is very proud of its history. Since its inception in November 2003, here's just some of its accomplishments:

- Public Education Forums with BOE and state political candidates every year since 2004.
- 2004 - Position statement to the BOE requesting earlier public input on the BOE budget resulting in public budget forums beginning in October instead of January.
- 2004 - Position statement to the BOE requesting math books be given to students in the time-frame as promised by the Truex Administration.
- October 2004 - Conducted the first ever GPS parent survey.
- 2004-2007 - "Get out the vote" campaigns.
- Perseverance to continue to ask questions and challenge the status quo publicly resulting in a much more open BOE.
- March 2005 - Differentiated Instruction Forum.
- March 2005 - Hosted a community discussion with National PTA President Linda Hodge.
- 2005-2009 - Sponsored Several Destination Imagination (DI) teams.
- 2006-2009 - Reflections Art Program, district-wide, K-12 art competition for all students.
- 2006-2009 - Turn Off Week & Guilford Clean-up weekend (in partnership with the school based PTO's).
- March 2007 - Sponsored Minds in Motion; over 300 children participated as well as providing or very informative parent workshops.
- June 2007 - Position statemetn to the BOE regarding Curriculum Enrichment (TAG)
- January 2008 - Position statement to the BOE requesting they evaluate Daily Unstructured Recess at Baldwin.
- Special Education Committee is formed to help parents of special needs children network and receive parent training to become more informed of their children's educational rights.

- September 2008 - Hosted an open forum discussion with Guiflord's State Legislative Representative.
- February 2009 - Junior Achievement, "JA in a Day", is conducted at Guilford Lakes.
- March 2009 - Senate Bill 1015 was introduced providing towns with the legal option to have Non-partisan Board of Education elections should they chose so.
- July 2009 - Successfully lobbied the BOE (after two years!) to institute daily, unstructured recess for Baldwin Middle School student.
- September 2009 - Bullying Survey
- September 2009, The GPTA Special Education Committee presented Attorney Howard Klebanoff from Klebanoff and Alfano P.C. Twenty-five parents and perspective BOE members were present. Attorney Klebanoff spoke about parent's rights, special education law, bullying and response to intervention. The response from the attendees was positive and resulted in open dialogue amongst parents after the workshop. Attorney Klebanoff has offered his educational consultant to present a workshop in the near future.
